Buy or not buy into a trend, 3 easy rules

Hey everyone!

Even though i am constantly looking for and understanding the newest trends coming from the runways, street style stars, my fav bloggers, fashion magazines, etc, etc i am often stuck with the dilemma to buy or not buy a trend, whether it is here to stay or will it fizzle out. In the past i was usually late almost super late to jump onto the bandwagon of trends but now i have started to make fast decisions. No waiting and watching anymore, its either Yes or No.

However the 3 easy rules i follow before actually buying into a trend are
  1. i should be able to come up with at least 3 diff outfit combinations with the piece.
  2. 8/10 times i prefer to buy a neutral colour so its easier to wear with different outfits.
  3. it should either match my personal style or be a challenge i.e something that i truly like but find a bit difficult to work. Just by following these three simple rules i have been able to be on trend and enjoy them without being stuck with items that i would only wear once and regret purchasing.

What i wore- Beret- Asos, Jacket- Mango, Dress- Asos, Boots- 4th and reckless

I love ankle boots (ending at ankle level) so wanted to try the calf boots (ending at mid calf level)  trend but was not particularly sure so i got one in nude which can be worn with multiple colors and have been able to wear quite a few times and in todays outfit i quite like how it dressed up this casual dress. It is from 4th and reckless, currently sold out but there are other calf length options in velvet and pu leather, they deliver worldwide.

Jackets hanging on one shoulder is definitely a styling trick i love. how instantly u have a fresh look with something u might have worn a million times.

Think parisian chic think beret! After wearing it this day to actually cover my dirty unwashed hair i am sold. Couldn’t be happier about how chic it made my outfit look.

What i wore- Beret- Asos, Jacket- Mango, Dress- Asos, Boots- 4th and reckless

Thank you for stopping by! See you in my next one.

Love
Chichi

  2. You've raised some really good pointers. I don't always jump into a trend right away - I always consider if it matches my personal style. It also explains why I am sometimes late buying into a trend. Ha!

  8. You look simply amaaaazing! I loved your outfit, the beret, the boots - really so lovely! I also love ankle boots! You are right about buying the "new trends". I normally feel that the fashion industry just re-creates trends, cause most of the ones they are announcing are quite old :) I loved your blog, I am following you now!

  16. Trends are great barometers of how the fashion wind blows but, at the end of the day, it's all a matter of personal preference and aesthetics how we interpret those trends, and incorporate them into our wardrobes. Nudes, for instance, have been all the rage for quite some time but I've only just recently accepted their presence on the sartorial scene, and "bought" into the look :) which brings me to the topic at hand, Chichi, I love love your outfit. Like you said, very Parisian, very fresh. Especially those boots. And thank you for the one shoulder jacket tip GRIN

Do come by my blog tomorrow for the weekly Friday Project Sister Act Link-Up? I'd love to see you there xoxo

  19. I LOVE those boots on you, they look so good paired with the dress, I love how they create a monochrome look, so chic! I also love your tips on how to determine whether or not you should by into a trend, I couldn't agree more, especially on knowing if you'd wear it at least 3 times! Thanks so much for sharing, gorgeous, and I hope you have the absolute best weekend ahead!

  20. Excellent rules for figuring out if you should make a purchase or not. I especially agree with the first one, as I often buy something and then find I have no idea how to style it! Love your outfit in today's post, especially the boots!

  21. Great guidelines! I usually don't get to wear my purchases that often.. so I usually don't follow trends and styles that much. :P

Looking gorgeous.. and totally in love with those boots! :)

  22. These are such great rules to shop.
I am trying to go for a minimalism approach to buy things only when you need them, but it is very difficult.
Love this outfit and those boots are gorgeous.

  23. It's always tough for me too when deciding whether or not to splurge on a new trend. I often think about whether or not I could wear it in a few years. If the answer is yes, I go for it.
