Most ladies have inhibitions about travelling while pregnant. Especially if its their first pregnancy. The fear of unknown - the journey in itself, the new place we are travelling to, unsure of the medical and hygiene factors there, etc. All the fears of travelling of the mum to be are because she doesn't want to take chances with her unborn baby.
Sometimes the doctor might advise not to travel. I had a low lying placenta at my 12 weeks scan and the doctor told me to not travel i.e by any mode of transport till the placenta got up.
In early pregnancy ( till 12 weeks ) jerks can be dangerous so it is advised to keep that risk to minimum. To be cautious of travelling by bus or car on bumpy roads or best avoided. Most airlines ask for a fit to travel certificate post 32 weeks. Train travel is the smoothest of all.
Having said that most ladies don't know they are pregnant until 5 or 6 weeks. So they just go about their life the usual way. I myself took 2 flights including 1 long haul flight from UK to India and made numerous train journeys in the first month of my pregnancy. I had no symptoms until week 5 and sometimes got my period a few days late, so.
At my 20 weeks scan the placenta had moved up so my doctor lifted the travel restrictions. I was happy to finally not be bound but as a first time mum to be i had so many fears - i just didn't know how travelling will be. Hoped my body wouldn't behave in some weird way. Anyways i had loads of advice from family, friends and the doc so i am sharing it all here, including my personal experience from my first travel at 23 weeks that happened to be on a long haul flight!!!!
1. Before planning any travel make sure you get a green signal from your doc. My pregnancy was an unplanned surprise. My husband and I like absolute nerds didn't know anything about being pregnant and what all it involved. I had heard from the ladies in my family to be careful and not travel the first 12 weeks thats it. In our oblivion we booked our flight to the UK from India and a holiday in Italy and Switzerland. Only to be told by the doc at the 12 weeks scan that i have low lying placenta and not fit to travel till it goes up which we will only find out at our 20 weeks scan!!!! Bummer!!! The flights had no policy for cancellation due to pregnancy so we ended up taking that hit. Luckily Airbnb was very cooperative and we were able to cancel our accommodations for 0 cost after providing a doctors certificate to Airbnb.
2. Carry a copy of your prenatal records including ultrasound in your hand luggage.
3. Take all your prenatal medicines with you. Keep travel portions in your hand luggage so your medicine routine is not disturbed because of travelling.
4. Research well on the hygiene, sanitary and medical facilities of the place you are travelling to. So you are well prepared. In general drink packaged water, don't eat raw cut fruits or vegetables and be careful with using toilets.
5. Wear easy breezy loose clothes and comfy shoes. Like my loose shirt dress and flats. Keep easy layers in your carry on bag because flights can be cold. I kept a pair of leggings and a cardigan.
6. Keep yourself hydrated throughout the journey. Keep sipping on that water.
7. Every hour or so take a walk inside the flight / train. Stop the car and walk a bit if travelling by car. This one is super important for long haul flights or when travelling long distance by train or car or bus. Walking keeps your blood circulation moving and prevents clots.
8. Eat something every couple of hours. Bring your snacks, don’t just depend on the flight food and beverage service.
9. Get yourself pregnancy stockings and wear them on long haul flights. They prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis ( Dvt ) a sort of a clot that can form due to sitting for prolonged periods. Walking helps too.
10. Do not hesitate to ask for help. Be it for lifting your luggage or anything. People are super kind and helpful, actually more than we expect most times.
11. Don’t go through the glass cabin like detectors. There wasn’t one at Delhi airport but London Heathrow and Birmingham airport have ones in place. Ask the security to search you physically.
12. Take the aisle seat in the flight - helps with frequent trips to the toilet.
13. Being on a cruise or ship can make / add to your nausea so best avoided unless you are a pro.
14. Be confident that you can do it you are only pregnant not sick. This is the most important. Be cautious and listen to your body. Follow the safety measure advised by the doctor but also remember the more normal you take yourself and your pregnancy the easier it will be. Don't let people get you - sometimes the mothers and aunties are too much.

I am sure, like me, you enjoyed the lovely warm Easter we had. Being able to eat outside, go for a walk or spend time enjoying an outdoor activity really gives you a lift. It is good for you mentally, emotionally and physically.
But, make the most of the fine weather you need
the right clothes. With this in mind, I have been visiting sites like JDWilliams to see what is available, so I can plan my
spring and summer wardrobe.
One particular trend caught my eye. Florals are
clearly back in style. It is a look that is perfect for all kinds of summer
events and activities.
A floral print dress is the perfect option for
the Chelsea Flower show which takes place on the 21st-25th May, this year.
Potentially, later in the year, you could wear that same dress for a summer
wedding. You would just need to buy some slightly brighter and glitzier
accessories to add a touch more glamour to your outfit.
There are lots of ways to wear florals. Here are
a few tips to help you to get the most out of this SS19 fashion trend.
Generally speaking, it is best to avoid mixing floral
prints. It is possible, but you are more likely to get it wrong rather than
right. So, it is better to wear a floral top with plain items of clothing.
Naturally, if you have chosen to wear a floral skirt or trousers you will want
to opt for a plain shirt, blouse or top.
The best way to pull the two halves of your
outfit together is to choose items of clothing that will blend in with the main
colour used in the floral print. This is a simple way of making sure that what
you are wearing does not clash. It does not necessarily have to be the exact
same shade. Using a colour wheel
is the best way to determine what your options are.
If floral prints are not your thing, you can
still incorporate floral designs into your wardrobe. For example, a jacket or
pair of jeans that feature a few embroidered flowers could still work for you. Another
alternative is to combine a full-on floral print jacket, or coat, with a plain
outfit. It is a stunning look that is worth trying. Usually, you will be
pleasantly surprised by how good it will look on you.
Or you could choose to wear floral-themed
jewellery. There are some lovely flowery scarves and wraps around, this year,
which are perfect for keeping the chill of, in the evenings.
The best thing about floral prints is that they
are easy to blend with new trends. For me, this is especially good news,
because I am adopting a slowstyle approach to my wardrobe. That means buying
ethically and opting for more eco-friendly fabrics. But, also wearing the
clothes I buy for longer, which is where floral prints come into play. I will
be looking for classically cut items, that I should be able to continue to wear,
next year, and beyond.

The designs behind the most iconic Met Gala looks
Set to take place on Monday the 6th
May, the highly-anticipated 2019 Met Gala is fast-approaching. Following on
from 2018’s ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’, this
year’s theme for celebrities to take inspiration from is ‘Camp: Notes on
Fashion’. We’re predicting over exaggerated styles and over-the-top
accessories.
As we can imagine, diamond-encrusted Papal
tiaras and draping dresses are carefully designed and timely to create. Before
we sit back and enjoy the costumes of this year’s event, read on as we review
some of the most iconic Met Gala outfits and explore the designers and creation
of the dresses.
Rihanna and Guo Pei in 2015
Before Rihanna stepped onto the Met Gala
red carpet wearing that iconic yellow cape, Chinese Guo Pei had been creating
couture for more than 30 years. In fact, this exact masterpiece had been
designed for a 2012 show in China and it had been at in Guo’s studio until it
was snapped up by Rihanna for the big event.
Weighing 25kg with a 16ft train, this look
wasn’t an easy one to pull off. In fact, when it was first presented in China,
the model made it only halfway down the catwalk before the show had to be
paused so she could remove the garment and head backstage!
Fitting for the “China: Through The Looking
Glass” theme, the fur-trimmed cape featured over 50,000 hours’ worth of hand
embroidery and took two whole years to make. Describing her inspiration behind
the design, Pei said, “When I had this design in mind, I [was thinking of] a
woman that can carry weight on her arms. It’s a dress she has to lift, like she
can lift the whole world. I always have a woman like that in mind.”
Guo became the first Chinese national to
appear at Paris couture week in 2017, showing off her large-scale yet intricate
designs. The colour yellow plays a big part in Pei’s designs, she recalls a
time when the colour was banned in her culture and how far fashion has come
since that time.
Blake Lively and Atelier Versace in 2018
Blake Lively’s dress was so long that she
had to take a party bus to the 2018 ball. Inspired by royalty and renaissance
to match the “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” theme, Lively
and her gown captivated audiences. Her long train was carefully embroidered,
and her jewelled corset reportedly took 600 hours to create! The look was
complete with sheer panels on either side of her legs and a custom halo that
featured 100 carats of champagne diamonds.
Why aren’t we surprised that this exquisite
piece was custom made for Blake herself? Designed by Atelier Versace, this
piece was guaranteed to impress. Talk about finishing touches, Lively wore $2
million of Lorraine Schwartz jewellery to complement her look — this included
the custom headpiece, bangles, earrings and her Lorraine Schwartz engagement
ring.
Schwartz’s pieces are often worn by
celebrities on the red carpet and her jewels have been spotted on Beyonce, Kim
Kardashian and Angelina Jolie. Her bespoke jewellery pieces never fail to
impress and it’s no surprise that she’s a go-to when celebrities are looking
for new bling!
Kim Kardashian and Prada in 2016
“Manus X Machina: Fashion in an Age of
Technology” was the theme for the 2016 Met Gala, and Kim Kardashian didn’t
disappoint. She co-ordinated with her beau as they both stepped onto the red
carpet dressed in Balmain — Kim in a futuristic silver dress and Kanye sporting
a silver jacket and icy blue contact lenses.
The garment was created by Olivier
Rousteing who became the youngest Creative Director of Balmain in 2011 at aged
24. Since his takeover, he has been credited with bringing an Asian influence
to the brand, something that has been widely welcomed by its buyers.
This look wasn’t the only outfit that was
considered. Speaking about the evening before the Gala, Kim said, “When I
landed in New York at midnight, I immediately went to see Olivier for a 1 am
fitting, and we literally cut skirts in half, created tops from dresses, and
stayed up until 4 am to get the perfect option that we felt fit the theme.” Other
potential looks included a gown with jewelled shoulders and sleeves and another
was embellished with pearls and a giant gem in the centre of the bodice. In
total, Kim received four custom-made goingout dresses from Rousteing before the event!
Rihanna and Comme des Garcons in 2017
The theme of this year’s event was “Rei
Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons” — a tribute to Kawakubo and her innovative designs
that have challenged fashion aesthetics.
In true Rihanna style, the Barbadian singer
stepped out onto the red carpet in an attention-grabbing piece. She wore a
textured garment that was cut from jacquard florals which made her dress
three-dimensional. The piece was designed with an asymmetric hemline, many
cut-outs and was first featured in the Comme des Garcons Fall 2016 collection.
It reportedly took Rihanna one hour to get
into the Dsquared2 red heels she wore that were tied up to her thighs. Her hair
was styled into a top bun and her makeup complemented the pink shades of the
dress with rosy eyeshadow and blush.
The 2017 gala was quite the tribute to Rei
Kawakubo, who rarely agrees to shows or interviews. She established Commes des
Garcons in Tokyo in 1973 and has developed the brand into what it is today — an
inventive and stand-out establishment that has had a great influence on fashion
as a whole.
This year’s theme is set to be “Camp: Notes
On Fashion”, who knows what iconic looks we’ll see.

Whether you’re going out for a romantic
meal or spending time adventuring outdoors, I’ve come up with the ultimate
style guide for dates in 2019.
Flirty fine dining
Sometimes we love to treat ourselves with a
spot of fine dining. It might be a restaurant that you and your other half have
been wanting to visit for a while, but you’ve been saving it for a special
occasion. With some fine dining venues operating a strict dress code, what
should you wear?
Choose a floor-length dress if you want to
amp up the formality of your look. Many
women go for a fancy look when they’re heading to a posh restaurant so it’s
unlikely that you’ll look out of place. If you feel overdressed, pair yours
with flat shoes and a short jacket. Alternatively, you could pair a midi dress
with heeled boots and a stylish clutch. Go for a statement print and flirty
frills to channel Valentine’s vibes — but remember to avoid overly bright
tones.
Date-night drinks
For weekend date nights, you might fancy a
few drinks together. Go dressy with one of your party
dresses, keep it flirty with a pink mini dress, scarlet lacy bodysuit or a
bold ruby-coloured jumpsuit. Or, stay classic in an LBD and accessorise by
adding a pop of colour to your outfit with red accessories. Elevate your
ensemble with statement stilettos or barely-there block heels. Finish the look
with dainty jewellery such as heart-shaped earrings and a pendant necklace.
Cosy cinema date
Perhaps you’ve decided to go on a cute
cinema date for your next night together. Of course, you still want to make an
effort, but you need to be comfy when you’re snuggling during the film.
Pair black skinny jeans with a bright
Bardot top and cute tote bag (perfect for hiding snacks as well as looking
stylish!). Bring some colour to your outfit with animal print ankle boots or
chunky printed scarf.
Eating out first? Opt for something
dressier like a loose-fitted T-shirt dress and over-the knee boots.
A night in for two
Make a candlelit home-made meal for two
followed by popcorn and your favourite film. You can still dress up, even if
you do want to get changed into your pyjamas straight after dinner!
Since you’re staying in the house, you want
to be comfy. You could opt for an accordion midi skirt, paired with an
off-the-shoulder crop top. Or, choose an unstructured jumpsuit that’ll look
great if you decide to head out after eating!
Make up for it with accessorising — hooped
earrings and a matching bracelet are the perfect finishing touches.
Romantic stroll
If you’re exploring with your special
someone you need to consider practicality. You don’t want to be falling over on
your romantic date so walking shoes or appropriate footwear are a must. Add
layers to your outfit with a cosy fleece, padded puffer jacket and a cute
bobble hat. If you’re planning on going out to lunch on your way home, consider
wearing a dressy top under your layers, just in case your other half wants to
snap a photo of you as a memory of your perfect day.
What’s your next date night? Make sure your
style-prepped with our different date style guide.
