The other day i was thinking about the women who moulded fashion over the years. Does it intrigue you as well? So here is a post on who are the female icons that have truly transformed how we dress?

It’s almost impossible to tell exactly when, how and why a style or trend became fashionable. However, sometimes, all it takes is the drive and power of a single female icon to create a revolution. Check out the leading women fashion influencers and find out how to bring their iconic trends into 2018.

Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe is one of the most recognisable faces in modern history, and someone who is known today for her persona and romances. But when it comes to style, what made Monroe an icon?

Born Norma Jeane Mortenson, she revolutionised how women thought they had to dress, and made it more acceptable for ladies of her era to wear clothes that weren’t so modest or restrictive. While most ladies naturally opted for blouses, long skirts and high necklines; Monroe showed the world how to wear clothes that showed off your body in an attractive way — and the best example of this was the famous white cocktail dress.

Have you ever seen The Seven Year Itch? If you haven’t don’t worry — you’ll know exactly what cocktail dress we’re talking about. The ivory frock Monroe wore in the now iconic scene that shows air blowing up from a subway grate, lifting Monroe’s skirt as she playfully tries to push it back down, is an example that perfectly defines how Monroe contributed to fashion. This famous backless dress featured a daring halter-like bodice with a plunging neck and bare arms — a far more risqué design than many 1950s’ women were used to. Similarly, the sheer, strappy dress featuring more than 2,000 crystals that she wore to sing “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy in 1962 again displayed Monroe’s ability to create an attractive silhouette while fusing sex appeal and high-fashion.

Monroe was a vulnerable powerhouse whose legend lives on today — some even say the term ‘bombshell’ came about because of her. Her curvaceous figure and ability to exhibit it with class and style today makes her one of fashion’s most celebrated icons. Soon after her death in August 1962, we saw the rise of miniskirts and knee-high boots — both styles that helped women break free of humble fashion during the Swinging Sixties.

Embracing femininity and defying the standards of 1950s’ fashion, Monroe fused her attractiveness with fashion to create an alluring, elegant, feminine appeal and encouraging other women to do the same. Perhaps today, we could even thank Monroe for 2018 fashion-favourites like figure-hugging bodycon dresses, backless jumpsuits and strapless tops.

Get the style:
Be confident and ever-glamorous to channel the fashion of Marilyn Monroe. Bodycon dresses will give you an enviable silhouette by flaunting every curve, while Bardot tops allow you to show some shoulder and halter-neck jumpsuits look amazing with a pair of heels. Strapless, fishtail dresses are the ultimate in Hollywood glitz, and anything with metallic or diamante embellishments will help you shimmer like the blonde bombshell herself. Make sure to finish off your occasion dress with pretty pieces of jewellery, too.

Audrey Hepburn
As far as film costumes go, Audrey’ Hepburn’s LBD in Breakfast at Tiffany’s is one of the most revered and renowned looks. Released in 1961, the opening scene of the film depicted Hepburn in a stunning, black Givenchy dress with elbow-length gloves and pearls eating a croissant on the morning after a big party is a beloved part of Hollywood history.

Interestingly, it was actually around 40 years earlier that the LBD was brought to the fashion world by Parisian designer, Coco Chanel. Featuring on the front cover of Vogue in 1926, it was labelled ‘Chanel’s Ford’ which was testament to its simplicity and accessibility. “Black wipes out everything else around,” said Chanel about the design, and it appears that fashionable women feel the same. The vision of Holly Golightly — Hepburn’s character — revived the high-fashion style and brought it to the attention of fashion-conscious, 1960s’ women who wanted to look effortlessly elegant at a time when women were beginning to be encouraged to think that way.

But did you know that the dress we recognise today was not the original? Hepburn’s first LBD was much shorter, but the film bosses of the time felt it showed too much of her leg. Consequently, costumer designer, Edith Head, amended the design, which sold at auction for £467,000 in 2006. From the frenzy-creating LBD worn by Princess Diana in 1994, to the LBD donned by Kate Moss to mark a decade with Rimmel London; this simple and sophisticated design was propelled by Hepburn propelled into mainstream fashion where it has stayed.

Get the style:
Nobody can go wrong with an LBD, so accessorise it or keep it as simple as you please. This is your opportunity to rock whichever cut and length you feel most comfortable in. Love figure-hugging styles? Get a bodycon dress. Prefer undefined silhouettes? Go for a tunic LBD. Need something truly sensational for a special evening? Opt for a floor-length, fishtail design for classic glamour.
Mary Quant
Now, it’s time to discuss the miniskirt. Although some people say other designers got there first, Mary Quant was the main driving force behind it, taking it from the fringes of fashion to mainstream almost immediately. Quant began seriously designing miniskirts around 1964. Sitting around six or seven inches above the knee, the style was revolutionary at a time when young women were still expected to dress like their mothers.

With massive stars of the era including Jean Shrimpton, Goldie Hawn and Jackie Kennedy all donning the iconic miniskirt, the trend soon caught on globally. Unfortunately, during the 1970s, the popularity of the miniskirt waned. However, rock legend, Debbie Harry, brought it back in true PVC style, before Madonna put her own tulle-embellished stamp on it at the 1984 MTV Video Music Awards and 1990s’ girl Britney Spears took it in a fresh direction with barely-there cropped tops.

Launching during a decade of youth culture and sexual freedom for women, the miniskirt couldn’t have been better timed. Often considered a symbol of female rebellion against the status quo of fashion, the miniskirt is still causing controversy today in certain religions and countries.

Get the style:
Miniskirts have never left mainstream fashion, so blending them with your current wardrobe will be easy. Skorts are big in 2018 — so why not go for this style and infuse your current wardrobe with the 1960s? Alternatively, try a frill mini skirt with a cute cami for an interesting outline, or rock an embroidered denim number with a cold-shoulder top when the spring-summer season gets underway.

Cher
An icon of 1060s and 1070s style, the bell bottom trouser was actually originally associated with the navy, not fashion. However, the rise of the multi-talented singer, actress and fashionista, Cher, was the driving force behind bell bottoms — potentially the most iconic of all 1970’s styles.

Thanks to her popularity in the US and UK, Cher’s fashion influence was far-reaching. From the 1965 episode of Beat Club when she sang ‘I Got You Babe’ in flared trousers, to the end of her three-year run on The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour in 1974 where she donned the bell bottoms throughout, Cher really drove the trend.

Reflecting on the style now, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the bell bottom jean was restricted to ‘hippie fashion’. But Cher brought the bell-bottom jean — which were typically flared from the knee with an opening of up to 66cm — into mainstream fashion via her fame and influence in TV, radio and film; encouraging men and women alike to adopt the style and aiding the fusion of genderless fashion styles.

Get the style:
Wide-cut pants are the way forward if you want a retro trend in 2018. Think bell bottom jeans are too retro? Go for a pair of black palazzo pants and match with a cropped top and heels for a stunning, going-out look with just a hint of nostalgia. Or, pull on a pair of nude culottes and team it with a floral Bardot top for the perfect boho, 1970s vibe for drinks and food with friends.

There are countless more women who have helped change how we dress over the decades. Why not pay homage to these iconic styles by bringing a taste of them into your 2018 wardrobe?

I didn’t think of myself as a beach person till i went to Naxos, Greece last summer. For the first time in my life i was able to enjoy the beach life. haha. Wake up early in the morning to see the sun cast its many colours on the water followed by a yoga session on the beach then some breakfast at a tavern facing the sea. Then go to the beach and lie down, read a book if mood be or just lie down with thoughts or even blank. By now the sun is getting warm. good idea to take a dip in the ocean and laze in the water for an hour or so. When i come back i find a refreshing drink mostly iced coffee or watermelon juice waiting on the table next to my beach chair. Its time for lunch, omg i could live on the greek salad and feta cheese but there are many seafood preparations waiting so i eat some salad and then try the other greek dishes. My tummy is hurting because of food overdose and all i am good for now is sleep. So i go back to the apartment and sleep in till its about 5. Take bath post wake up, put on a breezy outfit and head to the beach to see the sun again cast its many colours on the water. Be amazed by the different shades of yellow and red and how the shades differ from sunrise to sunset. I have a drink for company and now music from the many taverns and clubs lined up on the beach begins to enter my ear. A dance on the beach barefoot is the feeling and after an hour or so of doing that i stuff my mouth with some yummy food, drink some more wine at a tavern and then walk some on the beach letting the evening breeze play with my hair. Its time to call it a day and sleep with no dreams, no dreams is a good idea to me. The next day repeat.

That was my schedule in Naxos that made me fall in love with the beach. When going on a beach holiday its best to pack little as mentioned in my post on Beach holiday essentials. Also worth adding to the list is a kaftan and a robe. A towel + changing robe sounds most practical. Perfect for swimmers, triathletes, surfers and watersports enthusiasts who need to change out of their wet gear and also for beach lovers.  I missed having something under which i could remove my swimsuit whilst preserving my modesty in public. Wide sleeves help to move freely or  remove arms from the sleeves to adjust the gear underneath the robe. Ideal for changing indoors or outdoors in spring and summer.
Some people like to have the who cares attitude while changing in public but somehow i can’t bring myself to do it in the open even if everybody else is doing the same. Lol!!

Beret is officially one of the hottest trends for 2018. An iconic piece in the french style that the french don’t really to wear because the Beret comes as too cliche. In the past past I never spotted anyone in Paris wearing a beret to be honest. But as said it was the past. The beret became a trend last year and now its one of the hugest trends for 2018. Be it the runways of ss18,aw18 or the street style during fashion weeks in New york, London, Milan and Paris the beret was everywhere. Not to be said Instagram is full of Beret. I love it because it adds the chic and interest to the simplest of outfits and obviously adds the more to a something extra outfit

BERET TREND 2018, HOW TO WEAR BERET, beret, effortless chic, chic, french style, parisian style, trends 2018, nude dress, indian blogger, uk blog,

On ways to wear a beret i mostly wear the traditional way,  like in these pictures,  but an interesting style is to tilt it on one side.

Where to shop a beret- Well just about any high street or online retailer. Zara, Mango, Topshop, Asos, H&M and the likes.

There are quite a few interesting styles in the market. If you are trying for the first time go for a plain black one so its easier to wear with different pieces in your wardrobe otherwise go for anything that you fancy or goes with your wardrobe.

In case you are thinking wearing a beret will turn you into a wannabe or poser or a tourist in Paris get off the mindset. Think of it as just an accessory a style of a hat and wear with just about anything you fancy. Does not have to be so to say a French /Parisian outfit

I was going to write about my trials with success and something happened in the house that changed the topic of the post to why emotional honesty is important. Honesty not just to the world but also to self. They say it shouldn’t show from my demeanor if i am angry or sad. You must have a pleasant face and body language no matter how horrible you feel from inside. Your sufferings are yours and thats where they should be with you. Isn’t that the most ridiculous of things!!! Isn’t that the biggest lie isn’t that just preaching pretence. Shouldn’t every element of my body send the exact message into the world that it truly feels.

why emotional honesty is important, uk blog, london blog, indian blog, pink, pink corduroy trouser, effortless chic, british style, belt on waist, spring 2018, trend ss18,

I don’t want to give a flying fcuk what people think about me, oh she is upset, oh she is cheerful, oh she didn’t like this. Who cares what they think and certainly certainly not want to give them the illusion of my happiness or sadness which i do not experience. And above all pretence. Its a lie. The problem with this kind of show is that although it starts with others, we begin to lie to ourselves and start hiding our real emotions which in turn leads to hollowness and diseases of heart and mind.

Sometimes people walk up to you and ask you why you look sad or elated or worried. It might be out of concern, because probably they hate to see you in  bad mood. but often, it’s also about their expectations out of you in a particular environment. I just said sad it can also be happiness at a time when situation demands to be sad. The cause of the happiness could be anything maybe i found some light inside me even in a sad situation and that has made me happy. But showing that happiness to the world means being judged badly. But seriously why should i care for that judgement it is of no consequence.

I understand sometimes we have to hide our true feelings. For e.g a mother might have a really bad day but has to be cheerful when she meets her child because she wouldn’t want the child to get sad seeing her troubled. But even there a check has to come, the number of times, the extent and also some education to the child to prepare her for the realities of life. And same goes to all relationships to be honest.

I think of it as honesty, wrong info to the world about my emotional state will be a lie just like i wouldn’t want to make wordly and actly lies i wouldn’t want an emotional lie. That is my answer to whosoever tells me to check my expression my body language my demeanor. And i urge each one of us to take this with seriousness, its not society’s expectation that your emotions have to live up to. you can feel what you are feeling and it is great if that shows on your face and through your actions. Just proves that you value truth, you care for self love and you haven’t let the ways of the world override your ways.

I would love to hear your thoughts on emotional honesty. Thank you for stopping by, see you with my next.

What i wore - Trousers, Shirt - Zara , Belt - Asos, Slides - Topshop

I stand super impressed by the street style from London Fashion Week aw18 and the ongoing Milan fashion week aw18. My love for fashion weeks as also mentioned in my trends and street style round up post from ss18 is more for the street style and the vibe in the city than the fashion shows. So a bit off that i have missed out on two successive seasons of fashion weeks because of my sisters weddings but guess thats what life is, different priorities different times!!! Ok anyways i have been all over the internet aka instagram to check my favourite fashion girls and fashion accounts also the #lfw #londonfashionweek #mfw #milanfashionweek and got these kickass street style looks that are super chic and effortless yet super fun and interesting. No unachievable unwearable looks that can neither handle a job nor are weather appropriate, seriously those looks might make good pictures but they never inspire me. Practical fashion made special does and here it is.

The key fashion pieces spotted are 1. the heritage check 2. the pant suit 3. the beige trench 4. the vinyl trench 5. wide leg trousers/ jeans 6. the blazer 7. the hand held bag 8. the dad sneakers 9. the sock boots 10. the white boots 11. the belt on the waist

I believe each day is just as special and just as not special having said that valentines day is around the corner and i know most like to celebrate in some way or the other. Valentines day has turned into a major celebration of sorts with couples booking luxurious holidays, hotel stays, fancy activities and dinners on top of luxe gifts for each other. Social media is now full swing into it with messages and events. Most of my friends have made exorbitant plans, also a couple who was complaining about their depleted bank situation and asking me how to get loans for bad credit this weekend. The hype does create pressure on those who do not have the budget or who do not really like to take it over the top. I believe one must do what gives them happiness if going all the way out does please do else i am suggesting in no order some alternative ways to celebrate valentines day

alternative ways to celebrate valentines day, cash lady, valentines day, valentines day 2018, blazer outfit, heritage check blazer, prince of wales check blazer, uk blog, indian blogger, ways to celebrate valentines day, valentines day fresh idea,

  1. Go to the flower market and spend some time there with the loveliest creation of god.
  2. Make each others favourite food together instead of going out for dinner.
  3. Pack some snacks and go on a long drive you can also stop at the villages on the way and learn a thing or two about country life.
  4. Wear your partners favourite colour or their favourite outfit on you.
  5. We all have those habits our partner complains about, try not to give them a chance to do so.
  6. If you want to gift, gift something absolutely personal and invaluable. It can be anything from two lines of poetry to a painting to a handmade card with a message written by you, etc
  7. In todays busy life communication and quality time has become scarce so on valentines day make sure you sit down  and talk to each other about how you feel about yourself and also each other, if there is anything new or exciting you want to do alone or as a couple, your emotions, anything that is bothering you, etc, etc you can also go for a walk and do so.
  8. Give each other a good body massage at home. Everyone loves massage!!!
  9. Picnics and potlucks with friends are also a good idea. You get to meet and chill with everyone plus have a lavish meal without spending anything.
  10. Sing or play on an instrument your partners favourite song or favourite new song.

After the festivals valentines day is the most celebrated event. Fancy non fancy whatever you like just don’t let any external element dictate and keep it stressless and meaningful.
