Hey everyone! When it comes to jewellery i have come to the conclusion that i am a silver person. I think my complexion is neutral tone but off late i gravitate more towards silver than gold and i also much prefer silver hardware on clothes, bags and shoes except when i wear indian outfits and If you too love silver then this post is worth a read.

Silver has been quite popular since ancient times, the lustrous colour, shine and serviceability in creating useful tools, ornaments and accessories are a few reasons for silver’s continued and steady popularity.
Lets go back in time and learn more- In ancient times silver was ‘officially’ recognized as a means of value exchange or token of honour, success and admiration (as well as love) as far back as 3100 B.C of recorded history.
Cretian ambassadors presented Egyptian rulers with beautiful gifts of silver vases.
About the adage “born with a silver spoon in their mouth” - Most people assume it is a British expression used to describe the British aristocracy. But interestingly enough, it has been noted (but contested) that it was actually first cited in 1801 as an adage or expression in the United States of America referring to how most lawyers were born into money.
Some researchers have noted that the expression was actually used in a 1719 translation (Spanish to English) of Don Miguel Cervantes’ novel Don Quixote. Still others advocate for the expressions appearance in a book of Scottish proverbs.
The expression’s origins may go far back to medieval times, when spoons were made of wood. It still remains a tradition for affluent godparents to bestow a silver spoon to their godchildren during christenings.
Silver spoons were also used historically, to detect poison. Specifically in the Korean Joseon Dynasty where kings were polygamists and their wives fought for whose son would inherit the throne and succeed in the monarchical tradition. Since silver is very reactive when it comes in contact with sulphur (found in arsenics), and tarnish, it was a way to detect poison (and frankly, a much better way than have a “royal taste tester” drop dead after sampling the king’s food).
Why it is popular- Silver has maintained its popular allure because it is affordable and malleable, it can easily be shaped into many useful, practical items, as well as adornments. Craftsmen too find it inspiring because it lets them be creative and innovative. I particularly love silver because it can be dressed up or down, it can be worn at a wedding or to a sporting event. Silver, unlike gold, complements all skin tones; it’s more reasonably priced than gold. Some people like the aspect that you can buy several pieces of silver jewellery for one piece of gold (and that gold just may be in the shade of yellow that is not flattering on some people). Silver also blends beautifully with just about any gemstone and It’s no surprise that designers and craftsmen love working with this element and most of us are just in search of the finest silver jewellery collection
How it is used - Because pure silver is too malleable on its own, sterling silver is marked with the addition of 7.5% copper to harden the metal so jewellery (and other) creations can be long lasting.
How to care- silver is easy to care for and can be worn daily. Store it in a special no-tarnish cloth or bag. This means never store your pieces in paper towels or tissue paper because they can scratch your precious jewellery. Clean it with soap or toothpaste, rinse well and dry carefully with a soft cloth.

These pictures are from my trip to Munich in July this year. A breezy and comfy outfit for exploring the city in one of my fav color combinations grey and white, the cool color palette is my jam and silver goes great with it.
Would love to know whether you are a gold or silver person and if you know anything interesting about the metal, please share in the comments below.

Silver works so well with my coloring. I feel like it's bright and light and gold feels heavier to me for some reason. Silver is like lightening and gold is like sunshine.
