Hey everyone

Embroidery has literally taken the fashion world by storm and i am obsessed. Be it on clothes or shoes i am loving it all! As times have changed, machine embroidery has become popular because it is faster and cost effective and almost 90% of the the embroidery that you see is done by machines but hand embroidery has its special charm and appeal. For traditional indian outfits its nothing new, they are almost the backbone of indian wedding clothes. Lighter versions on indian kurtis/ tunics make them also wearable for day to day and i personally much prefer the embroidered ones over the printed. Today we are going to talk a bit about the various types of embroideries that we see in general.

india rush, kurtis, online kurtis, designer kurtis

Thread embroidery
This is the most common one done by hand and actually also easy to do. Florals, leaves and simpler patterns woven by simple needle and thread on any fabric. Love the simpler versions on designer kurtis done on the sleeves or neckline or just as a thin border at the bottom.

Mirror work
Mirrors of any size are fixed on to fabric with colorful threads, off late the mirrors have been replaced by reflective metal. There is a debate as to where mirror work originated, some say it was brought to India by the mughals but surprisingly it was not found on the clothes of the mughal rulers?? Some say it originated in the Indian states of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Haryana where it is the most popular. Extensively used on wedding lehngas and sarees almost everywhere, it is also a huge trend on tops and dresses at the moment. On kurtis a sprinkling of mirror work on the body or just on the yolk looks beautiful while keeping them wearable for day to day.

Cut work
Cut work as the name suggests involves cutting out the interiors of a pattern and then embroidering the raw edges either the same colour or mostly white. This one is great in case you do not like much work or embellishment.

Zardosi embroidery
Zardosi originated in Persia and literally means embroidery with gold, beautiful patterns are created by either sewing embellishments or stitching with metallic threads. In ancient times it was mostly the virtue of the super rich to wear zardosi as it was so expensive for obvious reasons, made from gold. Today its one of the most popular embroideries in INDIA, PAKISTAN, IRAN and adjoining countries. No brides trousseau is complete without a saree or suit in this rich embroidery.

Chikan embroidery
This is my favourite of all, easily have about 5-6 Chikan work kurtis in my wardrobe. Originating from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh india, Chikankari , the art of Chikan is mostly done on thin light fabrics like cotton, silk, pure georgette, etc. Starts with printing a pattern on the fabric then stitchinging on the pattern followed by multiple washes that ensures no shrinkage or colour bleed. Traditionally the embroidery was in white on soft pastel or plain white fabrics but now coloured threads are used as well. It is very intricate involving around 32 different types of stitches, a pure work of art.

I am soon doing a post on some of my latest favourite embroidered pieces on the high street so stay tuned for that!

Thank you for stopping by! See you in my next one.

Hey everyone!

Yoga and Ayurveda are probably the biggest gift of India to the world! The basic of both is being one not just with oneself but also nature i.e  when the body, mind, soul and the surrounding are in unity. A state of bliss! As i said in this post i am striving for a blissfully simplistic and holistic lifestyle and that brought me to Kairali- the ayurvedic healing village in God’s own country, Kerala the southernmost state of incredible India.

Me and my best friend reached Kairali for a 3 nights weekend stay, our purpose was to relax in the lap of nature with all the coconut, native and medicinal trees, detox with ayurvedic food, practice yoga in clean natural surroundings and also indulge in the ayurvedic massages, the abhyanga, the shirodhara, and the potli kerala is world famous for. Our typical day would start at 5 in the morning with a bottle of the red water to drink called the pathimugam, great to detoxify followed by an hour long session of ashtanga yoga, then a 1.5 hour massage session followed by bath and breakfast. We would then chill in the property or walk around to explore the various gardens the herb garden, the medicinal garden etc. Eat our ayurvedic lunch around 1-1.30 and then rest for a couple of hours. The evenings were mostly spent getting a new massage done and an hour long meditation session followed by dinner around 7-7.30 and then sleep by 8.30-9 after some more walk in the property or a session of board game in the recreation centre.

Why to go to Kairali- 1. To relax and rejuvenate in holistic environment. 2. To practice yoga and meditation. 3. For curing diseases through ayurvedic medicine, yoga and holistic lifestyle 4. To loose weight. 5. To learn Ayurveda and Yoga.

How to get there- The nearest airport is Coimbatore and it takes about 1 hr 45 mins on car to reach the property. The journey is very smooth with beautiful scenery.

Best time to visit- For relaxation winter season is great from November- January. For Ayurvedic treatments rainy season July- September.

The Property- Situated in Palakkad, Kerala, world famous for its wellness centres and just a few kms from the world famous mountain pass between kerala and tamilnadu. Sorrounded by lakes and forests, you enter the property and you know you are in pristine environment. Lush green, almost 90% covered with natural habitant plants and trees. Stay options are 4 categories of cottages which are all good and basically depends on the size of your family. All built on the principles of Vastu Shastra and zodiac signs but i will suggest asking for the one that have been recently renovated as some cottages may be under repair work being taken care by the owners who want to keep the facility up to date. Talking of the owners, they are a family of 10 decades of Ayurvedic doctors so its really not to be said that the property is an extension of their experience in this field. Food served is traditional Kerala food like idiappam, Idli, Puttu etc prepared on the principles of ayurveda and the ingredients are either grown on the property or the fields owned by the owners nearby or sourced through barter with the local farmers. So everything you eat is seasonal and organic and i was surprised at how yum it tasted even though their was no oil and mild use of spices. There are a variety of packages depending on your need i.e treatment or rejuvenation. Yoga and meditation package, Yoga therapy, Ayurvedic treatment packages, Ayurveda and yoga training to name a few, check here for a full list. Whether for treatment or rejuvenation you get to indulge in the world famous kerala ayurvedic massages like the potli, shirodhara and abhyanga by trained kerala ayurveda  masseurs dressed in the traditional Kerala Saree. The staff is courteous, eager to help and the doctors very well trained in ayurvedic medicine some coming from traditional ayurvedic families.

Hey everyone

From unique engagement rings to astrological reasoning, coloured gemstones have always remained the mainstay of both love and belief. However, the charm for colourful gems is no longer restricted to these reasons. In fact, jewellery studded with coloured gemstones has become a major fashion accessory that makes the wearer stand out in the crowd, it definitely can make the simplest outfit special and for special occasions its obviously a great choice. I recently came across  CaratLane , a very convenient shop to buy jewellery online, and was really impressed by their coloured gemstone pieces, so i thought of sharing my favourites today,

One of the most striking pieces from from the La Naturale Collection  available at CaratLane, this beautiful ring is studded with an all-natural blue topaz (12mm) stone. Blue topaz is treated as a symbol of love and affection which makes this enchanting as a perfect anniversary or birthday gift or just to surprise the sweetheart.

Emerald has an ethereal charm. Adored by ancient queens to present day royalty to movie stars, it is the central stone to some of the most iconic jewellery pieces in the world. Amongst the most famous emerald pieces is the 2.84 carat emerald engagement ring presented by JF Kennedy to his would-be bride Jacqueline in 1963. The wave emerald birthstone ring is a very elegant piece. The simple yet dainty design makes it  ideal  for everyday wear.

Entwined Heart Pendant

Heart shaped drops are definitely the most lovable and popular pendant design. However, what makes this elegant and beautiful piece from the Style By Ami Collection so special is the entwined eclectic design and a heart rim studded with small synthetic rubies. Very contemporary and trendy, the entwined heart pendant made with White Gold with a subtle glint of rubies is an ideal wear for any occasion.

Make a splash with coloured gemstone jewellery

Wave Emerald Birthstone Ring

Each petal of this beautiful earring is studded with pink gem and studded with diamonds. The earring strikingly adorns beautiful pearl drop which is the highlight of this embellishment. The delicate and feminine design makes this jewellery piece truly standout. An Ideal accessory to don for weddings and formal events, this colourful earring is going to be a special addition to any collection.

Irina Chandelier Earrings

So, if you are looking for an essential fashion accessory that will come in handy during special events, look no further than the Irina Chandelier Earrings from the ShowStoppers Collection. Hey everyone!

Here I am wearing my golden booties again, now there can be either one, or a combination of or all of the following three reasons 1. they are super comfortable 2. they are super versatile 3. they are super good looking.  Well they are all the 3!!! My first pair that has not given me a shoe bite any day, not even the first day which is unreal as i had to even break into my converse that i so love for a couple of days, nothing against, it is the usual but these ones were a blessing so to say. They are from River Island and my first pair from the brand. After my blessing like experience i thought of asking other people who wear River Island shoes, to know if the brand makes comfy shoes or i just got lucky, before coming at a final verdict, and to my relief almost everyone ( friends, including blogger friends and family) said that some of their comfiest shoes are from River Island. It was kind of reassuring as i love to walk and i love fancy on my foot and if i know a brand that delivers both i am a happy person.

Hey everyone

I reached Delhi right in time for Day 3 of the Amazon India Fashion week aw17. More on the shows later this week, today its the outfit!!

I haven’t really been able to plan the Fashion week in Delhi because of my travels, which is such a shame and i hope that i am able to next time, having said that i love that i am free to wear whatever the hell i want to wear. Which i do but you get what i am trying to say right!!!! Weather is on top of my checklist before planning my outfits and considering it was already 25 degrees c + i needed to wear something light in natural breathable fabric. This grey dress ticked all the right boxes, soft cotton fabric in my favourite neutral with the gorgeous trendy ruffles at the bottom. Its quite loose, which i love but i thought of giving it a bit of shape with another huge trend the corset belt, have to do a full post on that, stay tuned. Since the outfit was neutral i decided to have some fun with the shoes so there comes the embroidered slides, another huge trend and the fishnet socks in the pantone colour of the year greenery, another huge trend, phewwwwwww!!! How many trends can you put together in an outfit, lol and i myself advocate just going with one or two but also remember what i told you in this post, if you go with neutrals it is easier to add many details or trends in an outfit, this outfit is proof #neutralsrule.

These are just iPhone 7 pictures that a dear blogger friend took and since they came out well i decided to use them for the blog.

I was extremely comfortable throughout the day, standing and walking around, meeting friends old and new, thanks to the super comfortable shoe and outfit!  It was definitely a hit as many people took pictures, so yes, what else does one need!!

All the items I am wearing are from the latest spring summer collection on ASOS and available online for delivery every where in the world so you can just click on the items below and shop.

Thank you for stopping by! See you in my next one.
